Interest/Focus

We have found in vivo toxicity of gold nano-particles (AuNPs) by using zebrafish. Two approaches are incorporated to elucidate the toxicity mechanism of AuNPs to environment and human health. One is to determine the physicochemical properties governing the toxicity of AuNPs. The other is to identify molecular biomakers and pathways. AuNPs are modulated to represent well-defined physicochemical properties such as size, core composition, and surface functionalization. The individual and combined synergistic effects of these physicochemical properties on in vivo toxicity of AuNPs are investigated, which is followed by nanomaterials-biological internations (NBI) at the genomic molecular level.
